Ann Jordan B SC
Ann's early experience as a Social Worker in adult and adolescent mental health
settings led to work as a generic social worker and child care officer in a
large Social Services Department. Appointed as a Non-Executive Director to
the Lancashire Family Health Service Authority Ann went on to serve on
District and Strategic Health Authorities. For many years she has developed
and acted as Convener for the NHS complaints system. Ann has over fourteen
years experience serving as lay member on a variety of Tribunals and remains
a member of Mental Health Review Tribunals in Southern England. In addition
she has recently been appointed as a school governor and has established the
JJ Trust, a small charity devoted to young people who aspire to work in the
arts but have no financial support.
Malcolm Jordan MA
Malcolm is able to draw on successful careers in both public services and
commerce. Ten years ago, he and his co-director took on a failing enterprise
threatened with closure and, in April 2000 sold it as a highly profitable
business held up as a centre of excellence. In this same period he has become
an established consultant, commissioning and supporting complex operations in
the field of mental health, advising public and private bodies who have
organisational problems, providing a high quality service as an expert
witness and conducting enquiries into malpractice. He is a registered
Mediator. His previous roles as advisor to central government in the national
health service and as chief officer in local government, managing a workforce
of 10,000 and a budget of £100m, embraced his particular interests which
include staff care, teamwork, management and quality systems. These
activities built on his work in the fields of mental health, child care,
disability, adult education and senior management.Malcolm is a committee
member of the General Social Care Council and an Associate of the Healthcare
Commission.

John Bates Cert Ed. CQSW MEd
An experienced social work practitioner, manager and educator, John is the
author of several articles and co-editor of a book on child protection. He
has been a speaker at conferences and seminars in Britain, Europe, the United
States and Canada. Currently principal lecturer in social work at NE Wales
Institute of Higher Education, he has considerable expertise in a range of
issues associated with human relations and personal and professional
development.
Dr Alan Coupar BA(Hons) MSc,DclinPsych
Dr Coupar was previously head of NHS clinical psychology services in London,
Wales and Durham. He now directs a company focusing on occupational mental
health solutions and his concerns are with employee assistance, expert
witness, driver behaviour and psychometrics for selection at all levels and
organisational development. These services cover Scotland and other areas. He
has particular experience of chronic pain management and assessment, with
road traffic incidents a particular area of expertise. Currently he has input
to chronic pain services. He is qualified in hypnotherapy and is
Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Chartered Clinical
Psychologist and a Chartered Health Psychologist.
Peter Gilbert MA, MSocWk, MBA
Peter Gilbert is currently Professor of Social Work and Spirituality at Staffiordshire University.
Following a first career in the British Army and a degree in Modern History
at Balliol College Oxford, Peter joined West Sussex Social Services gaining
experience in fieldwork, residential and day care in all client groups. Six
years as a generic social worker and senior practitioner whilst taking a
Master's degree in Social Work were followed by specialising in learning
disability and mental health. After management posts with LB Merton and Kent
CC Peter moved to Staffordshire as Operations Director for Adult Services in
order to manage the implementation of the NHS and Community Care Act 1993. In
1997 he left to become the Director of Social Services for the new
Worcestershire County Council.
Peter works as an independent
consultant but also maintains roles with several national bodies and academic
institutions. He holds an MBA and is a published author his most recent book being
Leadership: Being Effective and Remaining Human (2005)
Jacki Pritchard MA
Jacki Pritchard began work in the field of social care 24 years ago. She is a
registered social worker with the General Social Care Council, who works
independently as a consultant, trainer and researcher, specialising in abuse,
violence and risk. She currently is Director of two companies: Jacki
Pritchard Ltd (www.jacki-pritchard.co.uk)
from which she provides training
and consultancy on social care topics; Jacki Pritchard Productions
(www.jackipritchardproductions.co.uk)
which produces training videos/dvds and
study books on adult abuse. Jacki has worked as a practitioner and manager in
both fieldwork and hospital settings. She has extensive experience working
with all service user groups, having worked generically for many years. She
is particularly interested in looking at the links between child abuse,
domestic violence and adult abuse. She is also researching into and working
with male victims of abuse. She continues to actively work with victims of
abuse because she feels strongly that it is important to keep her hand in
practice in order to be an effective consultant, trainer and researcher. She
founded the organisation 'Beyond Existing' which runs support groups for
adults (both male and female) who have been abused either in childhood or
adulthood. She has written widely on social care topics and is currently
editor for two series published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers:
